Learn more about Gina, and her evolution as a key member of Donegal’s Loss Control team!

Hi, Gina! How did you get your start in the insurance industry?
“My exposure to the industry began during an internship at a large P&C carrier within their Risk Control department. After college, I began a career in onsite safety. This gave me a real-life insight into what onsite safety and health professionals experience with commitment and application of hazard identification, mitigation, and buy-in. While in that role, I had numerous invaluable experiences that helped shape my skills and prospective. At the same time, I was motivated to expand my reach and make an impact beyond the four walls of that building, which led me back to the insurance industry.”

Tell us a little about your time here at Donegal!
“I began as a Loss Control Consultant with Donegal in 2019. After a brief time away from the company, I returned in early 2022 with a new perspective and deeper appreciation for the organization and work that we do. In 2024, I stepped into a leadership role as Loss Control Supervisor, supporting the internal group of our Loss Control team. After some time in that leadership role, I transitioned to a new role that energizes me! I am able to balance multiple components of project management, innovation, quality assurance, and much more, which is driving improvement and growth in the Loss Control space!”

What has your experience been like as a woman in insurance?
“Working in a traditionally male-dominated industry (both safety and insurance), has been both rewarding and empowering. Feeling like an underdog at times throughout my career has taught me resilience, how to be an advocate, and empowered me to bring my unique perspective to strengthen the industry. I’ve been fortunate to see and work alongside several incredible women who are leaders at Donegal. They have been an incredible resource and mentor for me and serve as inspirations for the future generations of women in the field.”

What do you enjoy most about your role in Loss Control?
“It sounds cliché, but what I enjoy most about my role in Loss Control is making a difference. My concept of difference has evolved throughout my time here. Being able to meet policyholders where they are, explain exposures/controls, and provide assistance is at the core of that concept. Over time, my leadership role provided me the sense of making a difference by onboarding and shaping the newest members of our team, and serving as a resource to them. In my current role, driving innovation, quality assurance, and leading projects has allowed me to modernize process and offerings. Overall, the opportunity to have a seat at the table, bring up ideas, collaborate and act upon them, is empowering and something I am extremely grateful for.”

Tell us about the most valuable lesson you’ve learned in your career so far!
“One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned in my career is the importance of adaptability and the commitment to continuous improvement. There is constant evolution within the field. By asking questions and seeking out new knowledge, I have been able to grow, adapt, and support others.”

Where can we find you on your off time, Gina?
“You’ll find me on the yoga mat, reading, or enjoying time outside with my husband, daughter, and two pups!”

What advice would you give to other aspiring female leaders in the insurance industry?
“Don’t be afraid to propose new ideas and challenge status quo. That’s where I have seen the most growth, not only in our department, but also in myself.”
