During Women in Insurance Month, we’re proud to recognize the talented women who help drive our organization forward every day at Donegal Insurance Group.

Strong relationships, strategic thinking, and collaboration are at the heart of what we do. Renee Stillabower, Business Relationship Manager in Indiana, and Kristen Morrical, Commercial Lines Production Underwriter, embody those values through both their individual career journeys and their partnership.

Growth Through Change and Opportunity

Renee was drawn to the insurance industry while studying business in college, where her interest in finance and risk management led her toward a career that blends analytical thinking with relationship building. She began on the agency side, spending 19 years working directly with insureds before transitioning to the carrier side in 2019.

That move expanded her perspective significantly, shifting her focus from individual client relationships to territory growth, agency performance, profitability, and long-term strategic partnerships.

As she explains, The constant opportunity to learn and grow has kept me in the industry. This industry is always evolving.” Market conditions shift, products change, and underwriting.

For Kristen, the path into insurance began with family influence. Inspired by her grandmother, who built her own career in the industry, Kristen recognized early on that insurance offered strong, stable opportunities for women. Donegal Insurance is proud to offer our employees opportunities to grow and learn.

Kristen has remained in the field because of its flexibility and long-term growth potential. Reflecting on her experience, she shares, “I have stuck with this as a career as I believe there are endless opportunities within the insurance industry, and here at Donegal.”

Building Confidence and Finding Your Voice

Both Renee and Kristen have experienced moments of being the only woman in the room – a reality that has shaped their professional growth in meaningful ways.

For Renee, those experiences reinforced the importance of preparation and strategic thinking. She learned early on that confidence is built through consistency and results. Showing up prepared, communicating clearly, and bringing thoughtful insight to the table ultimately earns respect.

Kristen approached similar situations with determination. She chose to see those moments as opportunities to contribute and prove that women belong in every conversation. Over time, speaking up in those spaces strengthened her confidence and sense of belonging.

A Partnership Built on Trust

What makes this spotlight especially meaningful is the close working relationship between Renee and Kristen.

As a Business Relationship Manager and Underwriter who collaborate frequently, their partnership requires alignment, communication, and mutual respect. Over time, that professional collaboration has grown into genuine friendship, something they both credit as a key factor in their success.

Renee describes their working dynamic as rooted in trust and shared accountability, explaining, “We celebrate wins together, but we also support each other through challenging accounts and tough conversations.”

That level of support, particularly between two women in the industry, has created not only productive business outcomes, but a meaningful professional bond.

Advice for the Next Generation

When reflecting on the most rewarding aspects of their careers, both women point to the relationships they’ve built over time.

For Renee, it’s the long-standing partnerships with agency partners and colleagues that make the work meaningful. For Kristen, it’s the meaningful connections that extend beyond day-to-day responsibilities.

In an industry driven by trust, those relationships are not simply a byproduct of the work; they are the foundation of it.

Both also emphasize that intentional relationship-building is critical for long-term success. Insurance is a relationship-driven and interconnected industry. Being authentic, proactive, and consistent creates a network that supports both professional advancement and personal growth.

When asked what advice they would give women considering a career in insurance, they emphasized exploration and confidence.

Renee encourages women to look past common assumptions about the industry and take time to understand its full scope. As she shares, “Explore all the opportunities within the insurance industry before deciding what path is right for you.” With careers available on both the agency and carrier sides, insurance provides flexibility, long-term stability, and the ability to grow and shift directions as your interests and strengths evolve.

Kristen’s message is equally encouraging and direct.I would highly encourage them to go for it! Within the insurance industry there are so many great career paths to choose from. An insurance career is filled with opportunity, stability and room for advancement,” she says

Beyond entering the field, both women stress the importance of building strong professional relationships. Insurance is a relationship-driven industry, and success is built on trust, authenticity, and consistency. Being intentional, proactive, and willing to step outside your comfort zone can open doors that shape the trajectory of a career.

Together, their advice reflects the qualities that have defined their own journeys – curiosity, resilience, and the confidence to use their voice.

Looking Ahead

As we celebrate Women in Insurance Month, we recognize not only the achievements of women like Renee and Kristen, but the culture of growth and collaboration that supports their success at Donegal Insurance Group.

Their stories are reminders that insurance is more than policies and processes. It’s about resilience, partnership, strategic thinking, and the relationships that move our industry forward.

And perhaps most importantly, it’s about ensuring that women continue to see themselves, confidently and clearly.
